It totally depends on the situation.
If she is in her first trimester, the baby will reabsorb. If she is further along, and the baby poses no threat to the other baby- it is left in until birth. Sometimes, if it does pose a threat- but it's too early to deliver the other baby, they can reduce the fluid in that babies sac by doing a procedure very close to what happens with an amniocentesis.
If she is past 32 weeks, and the other baby dies- they will likely make her deliver at that time.

there have been cases where a baby dies and stays inside it's mother for years, and they calcify. There are also cases where a twin dies and the other twin absorbs it, or grows around it, when they grow around it it is called in non-medical terms baby in a baby syndrome usually this happens in third world countries, and people think it's a tumor/growth, when operated on they discover it's a calcified twin. From the things I've read online on this subject though it can either expell itself, or stay inside, just depends.

My mom was pregnant for twins. At 3 months pregnant one of the twins died and she miscarried it, then the next day she miscarried the other twin. Really sad. It may be possible the baby is still inside, but I'd honestly think that's dangerous and that the body would expel the baby...this could be dangerous. My moms body expelled both of the baby's seperate days, because your body knows when soemthings up, and if the babies are dead. If one of them died and the other ones still alive then the dead one has to come out, your friend can be harmed and so can the other baby. She should be consulting a dr, the dr needs to know wht to do with this situation. Goodluck!

They can't take the baby out b/c it could hurt the other baby. I believe the baby gets absorbed back into the mother or the other baby. That is what I have heard what happens but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

the twin will be expelled when the live one is born, but usually when it's just one youi will have a miscaraige and the baby will come out in what seem like a heavy period, if it lal doesn't come out then you may ahev to ahev a d &c to get out all of te tissue to reduce the risk of infection.if you are very far along then you will be induce and give birth to what is called a stillborn

I knew someone who had the same thing happen, and unfortunately she will carry the dead fetus to term and it will be stillborn. Its so sad, but i guess it depends on how far along she is. I know that more people conceive twins than are realized and one just dissappears sometimes. Im sorry, if its twins they carry to term, If its one baby, they do a d.n.c. and remove or they induce labor and deliver it.

Well they dont leave the baby in the womb as that would cause a MAJOR infection, I would have to say they take the baby out of the womb. Why dont you ask your friend what they did?

the first few weeks the body will dispose of it. But after you are a month or two pregnant... the only way is to have labour or have it surgically removed. You would get an infection
