My baby is 4 1/2 mos old and I had a job interview the other day, and after figuring out the pay and what it will cost for day care, when all is said and done, i'll be bringing home about $130 a week after paying for day care and insurance and taxes. My mother thinks i should stay home with my baby and be here when my 10 y/o gets home from school, but my friend says that is still enough money a month to pay rent. Im so torn. I want to be home with my baby, but i want to be reasonable too. I missed all the milestones with my first daughter because i was in school. I also thought with what people pay for child care these days i could take in a couple of babies or small kids and charge less and still end up with more money. What should i do?

We did this and have you factored in all the commuting cost and lunch, snacks, for you at work. We found that it would end up costing us an extra 300 a month over what i would bring home. I love being at home with my little ones, also becarefull with being a homecare provider. your child sometimes get less attention then you would think. IF you do do homecare, make sure your contracts have provisions for sick days and vacation times.

If financially you can, then stay home. It is not a bad idea to take care of a few more kids to earn extra money.

I wish I would have been able to stay home but I had to go back to work after 6 weeks.

I think you should stay home. I stay home with my daughter, she's 13 months, and I'm pregnant again. It's been tough making it on just my husband's income at times, but I will never ever regret the time I've gotten with my daughter, and will get with her and my son. It's totally worth it, you can find lots of different ways to make money at home.
