I would shorten the thesis to "Affirmative action has greatly increased diversity in education and employment facilities" and mention later that aa's inception was the early 1970's. Remember, a thesis statement must be strong, not contain too much extraneous material, and be easy to remember throughout the rest of the paper.

Your word "it" is ambiguous. Has Affirmative Action been the cause of increased diversity or has the "enforcement" of it caused the increase. It's a subtle difference, but it will determine your pathway of exploration...whether you look at the effects of AA or how it was enforced.

You are also aware, I hope, that AA started in 1961 (President Kennedy), and actually began to backlash in the 70's as people began to cry out against "reverse discrimination."

If you want to say it is AA itself increased diversity, then reword it like this:

Since its inception in 1961, affirmative action has greatly increased diversity in education and employment opportunities.

This way you can talk about the 70's backlash and are not limited to only talking about diversity in businesses (employement facilities), but that many more career PATHS were opened as well.
