Russia still makes them and China has copies that they produce and sell. AK-47's are the superior fire power out in the field. The barrel can be filled with dirt and sand and the weapon will still fire. M-16's can't do that.

The biggest producer of AK-47s in the world is the Czech Republic. They sell them all the time, every year, to almost anyone with money. Also most of the AK-47s used in Africa are refurbished from old parts.
