Take the Mears Motorcoach. They run continuously and are comfortable and convenient and much cheaper than renting a car. If you are staying at Disney and plan on doing just disney related events than you do not need a car at all.
Have a great time!

If you plan on staying at the Disney resorts, I would never get a rental car since you'll have transportation anywhere on Disney grounds that you want to go every 15 min. or so. They treat you like royalty, the service is wonderful, especially at the upper level resorts. It's wonderful and free!!! The Shades of Green also has a pretty good shuttle schedule if you are/were in the military. Also, you could get a taxi to Universal or Sea World if you need to for way cheaper than a rental car. We drive from our home in FL and then enjoy not having to do so for the rest of the trip. You don't want to be battling the mobs of crowds each day to get from your car to the tram to the main station to the park etc. . .Most of the good hotels in the area also have shuttle buses, but some only leave once an hour.

If you're staying at a Disney resort they provide free shuttle service from the airport and back. They even pick up your luggage (no waiting at the airport for bags) and they deliver to your room. This is so cool! If you're not staying at a Disney resort you can use Mears shuttle service. We used them many many times before Disney implemented their free shuttle service. If you're staying at a hotel on Disney property and plan on visiting those parks exclusively than I don't see any reason for renting a car since most hotels provide free shuttle service to the Disney parks. If you plan on venturing away from Disney than why not rent a car for one day at your hotel. Call the hotel and see if they have a car rental service like Avis or Alamo in the lobby. I haven't had to do this in at least a decade so I don't even know if hotels still lease to these car rental companies. If they do then that would probably be the best route to take.

On an average day , the parking lot would be very full. There are plenty parking spaces in the back but you'd be lucky to find one in the front. The shuttle would be a better choice , but then if you stay until the park closes then keep in mind of all the other people who thought of that also. So its a toss up. But for my opinion i'd take a car. having to walk a long distance to your car is better than having to wait over an hour for another shuttle to take a big crowd to the nearest hotels and campzones.

There are a TON of parking spots at all of the Disney resorts...just depends how far you want to walk and how busy it is that day.
If you are ONLY going to go to the Disney parks, take advantage of the shuttles. You can always cab it back to the hotel if you don't want to wait for the next shuttle.
Another advantage (if you're staying at a Disney resort) is that they pick up your bags at the airport and take them straight to your room. You can head straight to the parks from the airport. Then when you leave, you can check in for your flight at the Disney resort as well. Pretty convenient and saves you the hassle of waiting for your bags. You'll be standing around enough in lines at the parks as it is. ;-)
If you plan on doing other things around Orlando (nice downtown area with good restaurants & bars, International-Drive attractions, Sea World, head to Cocoa Beach & the Cape, etc.) then I'd definitely suggest a rental car. Traffic can be a pain at times since there's no rail system in the city...but it's easy to get around and most of the tourist traps are in the southwest corner of the city.
Hope that helps. Enjoy the trip!

i would take the shuttlew for 1 you have to pay for parking when driving yourself and also the parking lots are huge atleast with the shuttles you get dropped off by the gates instead of walking to the nearest trolley and waiting for that...each hotel has there own shuttle schedules so you would have to check with the hotel itself...if you only plan on doing the parks there is no need for a car rental..most hotels have restaurants either in them or right around them..most hotel offer shuttles to disney, universal and sea world..no need for cars

If you are staying at a Disney resort, use the Magical Express shuttle. It is a free service for resort guests, formerly the Mears Motor Shuttle. You will have to call to set up the arrangements. They mail you a packet with all the information you need, including special luggage tags for your suitcases. These will allow you to check your luggage at the airport of origin (mine is O'Hare in Chicago) and they pick up your luggage and deliver it directly to your hotel room. This may take up to 4 hours, so make sure to pack a carry on bag with any thing you will need during that time, including medicine and maybe a change of clothes. You completely bypass luggage pickup and go to the Disney welcome center. As I said, all of the instructions are sent to you. You need to call them with your flight info and what resort you are staying at.
If you are staying off property, I would rent a car. There will be less of a wait to get to your hotel, and you are able to come and go as you please. Many of the hotels do offer shuttle service, however some of them cost extra, and many of them you are subject to their schedules. Check with your hotel if you have any questions.
Have a great trip!!

If you are only staying on Disney property I would highly recommend using Disney's Magical Express. We just got home last week from WDW and we used DME and had no problems. It worked great for us. We also used the bus transportation to each of the parks. The buses run about every 20 mins but sometimes sooner. As for The DME it was great because they get your luggage from the airport and deliver it to your hotel room. We took our luggage to our hometown airport and that was the last we saw of it until about 8 hours later when it was sitting in our resort room, (we stayed at the All Star Movies). You can also depending on the airline your using check your luggage in at the hotel and get your boarding pass. So you don't have to drag it all with you on your last day. We will be doing the Magical Express and Disney bus transportation from now on. Have fun and tell Mickey hi for me.

If Disney is all you are going, I will stick with the shuttle bus. Disney has transportation to anywhere within their properties. From one park to another park... If you want to travel outside of Disney, let's say to the outlet or Universal.. then you would need your own car.

If you are staying on disney property, you will find no use for a car. Once you get to the airport, you can take disneys magical express to your hotel. Once at your hotel, there are buses that run to all parks and hotels on disney
