No, I do not prefer a dictator. But we're "spreading Democracy" ha right. Democracy and peaceful government with guns and tanks.

Your are 100% right.

The people of Iraq has seen US "democracy" for 4 years....and they don't want it. Our version of Democracy comes in the form of bombs, prison torture, and a military dictatorship.

The term spread Democracy is an offshoot to our desire to spread Freedom to oppressed peoples. Most people in this country equate Democracy to freedom as each person gets a say in how their Government is run.

And while you are technically correct that we are not a true Democracy, you will not find a true Democracy anywhere outside small groups. The entire populace having to vote on all issues would be costly and ineffective. We are as close as you will come for a country this large.

The US is a democratic republic. Being a republic means having elected/selected officials who make the decisions.

But those officials are elected by popular ballot, as opposed to being selected based on their total monetary worth (economic republic), or their church rank (ecclesiastical republic), or their family heritage (aristocratic republic).

As far as why we need to spread democracy -- it's just an excuse. The bottom line is that the US feels guilty because our armed forces toppled with previous govt in Iraq without there being any other govt (that we approve of) who can pick up the pieces. It's like driving into a house, and feeling guilty about leaving until the damage has been repaired.

I'm not one of those people! You cannot give people something they don't want, if they want Democracy, we can help them by showing them how to achieve it. Then they must be willing to obtain it on their own, we can't do it for them, no one did it for us; although France did help us (money) but only as a smack to the English & they wanted in on the land grab in this new country.
To a certain extent you are right, we are not a Democracy but the difference is only in that we elect others to vote in our place on new bills & laws. In most other aspects we are a Democratic country.

well i can easily answer to that. the world is a roting place and democracy is by far one of the bes ways of goverment. however can you imagine just sending missionaries to spread democracy, hell they would get shot in the freaking face before anything gets accomplished so why not opening up a big can of whoop a,ss and let em kno whos boss. but the reason why, its actualy just a cover up to get other countries to agree with us policies and help its econ grow, along with the other countries, but no so much

Um, we are a representative democracy.

As for spreading it, would you prefer a dictator who rules for life (or until he gets taken out)?

If so, Cuba and Venezuela might be of interest to you.

Just don't expect any real voting rights, or the chance to voice opposition, anything like that.

Enjoy!

Beats me..... especially seeing that America is NOT a democracy. Rather, it is a Constitutional Republic in which the tyranny of the majority is not allowed to oppress the minority.

It's a myth that is a carry over of the industrial age along with the post plantation and colonialist mentality of the time. It should be buried and scrapped along with this war.
