I can't imagine not believing in the magic, if for only a little while. Besides its the spirit of Santa that I pray is alive in all of us. With out that, the world would become even more hateful, and that would be tragic. Remember Saint Nicholas was a real person!

Well, drilling children into believing in Santa Clause may cause them to research some picture books and they might think the chimney part is a farce. They do have some intellect. Ya, there are still some mean elf bully friends they might have that will demand they believe it (and their orc moms). I would say, let them know its a world renown important character with an element of mystery.

I am childfree but if I had kids I would not perpetuate the Santa myth. My very own mother told me there was not Santa when I was 8 (I'm now 38) and I was shocked. I really had no idea; it's not like I was asking my parents if there really is a Santa or anything like that! I really don't know why she ruined it for me. I like to say that she scarred me for life. I bring this up every year when I go home for Christmas but she has no memory of it.

look at all the people who believed in santa claus when they were little. so why not? thats like part of child hood. don't forget the easter bunny and the tooth fairy too. do you want your kids to be the ones who go to school and tell all the other kids that santa isn't real? cause thats what will happen.

It depends on what kind of children you want to raise. I see no psychological effects on the development of young children if you explain to them years later that it was "fun" to believe in santa.

How do mean? Let them believe in Santa Claus. I mean there is no believing to be done. Santa Claus is real! He leaves me presents every year. How could he not be real?

I think so. I grew up believing in Santa and then passed it to my kids and my grand kids. It is a part of the childhood magic of Christmas . they don't think you lie. it was fun as each of mine stopped believing they would help keep the fun alive for the younger sibs

I think they should, assuming you celebrate Christmas. Among those who do, Santa Claus is a favored tradition.
