not a doctor or a girl, but a paramedic. i can give u an answer until some genius beats me to it.
symptoms would be ones that go along with increasing hormonal activity: mood swings, extremely mad at the drop of a hat, or extremely happy in a second too!
then theres the cramping. it can be little or severe in the stomach. usually a dull ache (as i've heard!). and u may be feeling much more tired than usual. and that's about a day or 2 at most before u see the period. then when u see the period, u would feel this way for up to a week. i hope that will help until a doc or girl answers! bye

When I started my period it was at nite while I was trying to sleep and I had no kind of symptoms as far as cramping until after I had my period for one day. One symptom that I will sometimes get in the weeks before my periods would be mood swings. And yes, sometimes a bit of a discharge from your vagina in the days before your period is another symptom.
I would also recommend talking to your mom about this and if you ever find that you do get cramps so bad that you can't function then you need to see a dr.

I got mine when I was 12 or 13; I did not have any symptoms ahead of time. Some people do. You may start to feel a tiny bit bloated and maybe a little crampy beforehand. Don't be surprised if you have no symptoms at all.
Yours will come when it comes; there is nothing you can do to hurry it along. Some young women do not start until 16 and that is normal too.
Relax, it will come.

Believe me, you won't want it when you get it XD.
I'm only 15, so I felt the same way a couple years ago.
But you can get a really bad stomach ache (cramps), feel really bloated (like, you're favorite skinny jeans are feeling a tad bit too tight), bad headaches for no apparent reason, or mood swings,
Then, when you actually get the period... Well, you'll know.

The symptoms will be gradual at first, but you'll come to recognize them: mild soreness in breasts, bloating due to water retention, sometimes irritability and cramps. It all depends on the girl, some have symptoms more drastic than others. Hope your symptoms are minimal, they can be unpleasant:)

There may not be any symptoms, but some girls may experience lower back pain or cramps in the lower part of stomach.

Yeah for your first period you may not have many symptoms... you'd most likely get a white discharge a few days beforehand.. you might possibly get cramps but I doubt it.. hang in there you'll get it soon enough

Well I noticed that I was having mood swings...not major ones but enough to notice. I also had a stomach ache, or at least that is what I thought. But it was probably really cramps. You also notice more discharge. Don't worry hun it will come when it comes.
