The more you live the more you understand of life. We become wise not through knowledge but through pain, confusion, anger etc. It is not the being old it is the amount of experiences you have gone through.

Yoda and Dumbledore are not really human... so why should they suffer from dementia? In a lot of cultures age equates with experience. Up to a point, it is true, as an older person has seen social changes and realises that there are usually several ways of looking at a problem.

Because wisdom comes with age -- if it comes at all. Not all old people are wise but very few young people are wise. Wisdom is different than intelligence, wisdom has a lot to do with experience and older folk have been around the block and seen and done more and made the mistakes you haven't even thought of.

What about Judi Dench in Chronicles of Riddick, Grandmother Willow, in Disney's Pocahauntess, The oracle in the Matrix Trillogy, or in Greek mythology, Athena, a young and beautiful woman, is the goddess of wisdom. If you really want an answer to your question though I'd say it would have to do something with the jungian architype of an all knowing god being an old man, but I'm just guessing.

Is a young man wise then?
Wisdom comes with experiencing life's difficulties: - with assessing positives and negatives of life's happenings and so formulating corrective principles to have a better life.
This can only happen if one actually lives through those experiences, therefore, comes with age.
Not everyone suffers dementia - Have you ever talked - really talked to older people? Do that. You might be surprised. Actually you WILL be surprised.
And remember, one day YOU will be that old wise man.

No.. In other countries such as Japan and China they regard their elders as the wisest in their villages or families. America has kinda lost touch of that with our young is beautiful way of life. But beauty isn't brains...not all the time any way.The point i'm trying to get at is that when you think of smart people you generally think of a male mathmetician or an older man. Because true wisdom comes with age....Hope I helped.

It is a matter of experience. You can't really go deeper than that, and it's drawn on real life. Village elders were highly respected and consulted for probelms in many cultures. Still are today, even.
It's a bit of a cliche, but it's one that will be overlooked since it does have grounds in reality. That's not to say a younger pereson can't be wise. If someone has a lot of experience in something and they are younger they can still be "wise" about it.

I will answer that by quoting a poem written by Edgar Lee Masters for Spoon River Anthology.
Alexander Throckmorton
In youth my wings were strong and tireless,
But I did not know the mountains.
In age I knew the mountains
But my weary wings could not follow my vision—
Genius is wisdom and youth.
Does that help at all? Kids think they know it all and that us old farts are ready for the nursing home -- I often tell my 20 year old son to move out while he still knows everything. C.

Well, that's pretty obvious, to me. An older person has had more experience. They've lived through it already and can say "Been there, done that." If you have a problem, an older person has probably experienced a similar situation. They can tell you what they did and if it solved the problem. If it didn't solve the problem, they can probably tell you what they wish they would have done.

Wisdom comes with age. You won't find a young person who is also wise.
