My boyfriend and I have been sexually active for almost 7 months. I recently went on birth control because we've had a couple of scares in the past (my period was late) and because my cramps were getting to the point that I couldn't function in society when my period came.

I started a little over month ago, and my boyfriend is getting anxious about having sex without a condom. He's not pressuring me or anything like that, but he's extremely excited about discontinuing the condoms. I've read so many stories on this site about women getting pregnant even though they were on the pill. We're both menogomous and we were both virgins when we decided to have sex for the first time. Would I still be protected against pregnancy if we stopped using condoms and just used birth control pills?

By the way, I take them religously at the same time every morning.

you can get pregnant while on any bc pill. the only thing ortho lo did for me was amke my periods shorter, which i love. i'm switching to seasonique so i will only get my period 4 times a year
if u stop using condoms and just use the pill, yes u will be protected. thats what its for. but there is still a risk. condoms are a good backup method. or u can try spermicide jelly. but i personally think u should use a condom becuz it protects u from std's.

does not matter how religiously you take them i took them every day same brand because it is the only one i can take and if you take an antibiotic watch out it goes from 99.7% to about 50% that is how i have 3 of my lovely children and the fourth is on the way I only planned my little girl other 3 were oops due to antibiotics mixing with the pill and there is really no diffence between condom sex and with out a condom enless you are allergic to latex and lubricant like me

As long as you are taking them as directed I wouldn't worry about getting pregnant. They are 99.7% effective with perfect use. I was on birth control pills for 5 years having sex about 2-3 times a day (I'm married) and never got pregnant. We never used condoms unless I was on antibiotics.

i have never taken ortho tricyclen but it's the same for any type of bc. you aren't 100% protected against pregnancy, but the pill has one of the highest success rates out of all the types of bc. there is a risk of pregnancy with any contraceptive except abstinance, but if you aren't abstinant you will probably be fine on the pill. just wait until a least a month of taking them every day.

I got pregnant while on the pill. Didn't know that I was pregnant and almost lost it. Was in hospital for seven days. If you don't want kids right now, Use condoms to be sure.

Hahahah, effective? IT was effective, alright. As soon as I went on it for treatment for endometriosis, my "sterile" body conceived....TWICE.
