In the first trimester I craved all veggies and things that were good for me. Now that Im in my 2nd trimester i cant get enough sugar! chocolate, cookies, candy, pie, anything and everything sweet! unfortunately I havent been good in turning these things down and Ive been eating alot of it. I do take my prenatals every day. Im just wondering if my prenatals are giving my baby everything it needs? How can I cut down on these cravings or is there anything I can substitute for this sweet tooth. Did you have this problem?

My doctor told me that products with Splena are alright to have....maybe get the sweets that have Splenda instead of sugar? Or try eating the sweet fruits?
Your body still needs healthy foods - but good for you for keeping up on your prenatals. :)

Oh my...are you all me???? I am having the worst time with sweets! I'm 28 weeks and this has been going on for the last 2 months. The problem is that I am putting on too much weight...I don't know if it's from the sweets or the swelling. Maybe both. When I can resist, I drink Oregon Chai Green Tea with Honey and Almond. It has the sweetness in it, but it's good for you! It comes in a box filled with the liquid tea. Mix it with milk (half tea, half milk). Love it!!! When I can't resist...hello chocolate and cheesecake!!! I'm glad to hear that it won't harm the baby. I'm so embarrassed by it I can't even admit to anyone how much I give in. I hope after this baby is born I don't touch candy for years!!!!

LOL... you sound just like me right now!!! Let me tell you, I've was craving cream cheese brownies, so I went and bought some. I ate like 5 in one day!!!! Sometimes us pregnant women just need to give in to our cravings. When else in your life are you not going to get so much grief from eating the stuff we want? It really is ok. As long as your other meals are healthy, you will be fine. Eating sweet things isn't going to harm you or the baby at all. Yes, your prenatals will give your baby everything it needs, as long as the meals you are eating are good too. Don't worry too much, just make sure you are eating your meals well and try to limit the portion sizes of sweet things. I know.. I'm one to talk right now!! Us pregnant women just can't help ourselves ;) .

The sweet tooth is common, and your vitamins are giving your baby everything he/she needs. And if your baby isn't getting something, the little "parasite" will take it from you... your bones, your teeth, your hair, etc.
There are many low fat and low sugar alternatives that might be good to think about at this time. For instance, frozen yogurt has MUCH less fat and calories, and tastes just like ice cream. Plus it's a good source of calcium. Stay away from artificial sweeteners with aspartame, but start reading the ingredients on the snack foods you crave and compare them to "low fat" or "low sugar" alternatives. In many cases there isn't a difference in taste, and you're going to need to watch your weight starting now anyway. The more fat you eat, the bigger your baby gets. And you don't want a baby that weighs 13 pounds at birth!

Yes I had that problem. I actually always had it :-).
Just try to take just a bite, not the whole thing at once. One bite now, another in an hour. Even though I did not gain a lot of weight (30 pounds total). So if you see that you don't gain too much weight, you should be OK. Almost everyone love sweets, you are not alone.
Enjoy your pregnancy!
PS. Be careful with sugar substitutes, you are not supposed to eat them.

seriously, theres nothing you can do. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and the whole sweet tooth thing just hit me, I just can't stop eating, my thing though is peanut butter and jam sandwiches and drumstick ice cream. I know not really healthy. Just make sure you at least eat a serving or 2 of veggies in the day, go for a walk (even if it's around the block) and you'll be fine. Oh the joys of being pregnant. It only happens once or twice in a lifetime, enjoy it.

I had those cravings to they are very common with pregnancy. But using fruit as a substitute is better for both of you. There is still alot of sugar. And the occasional chocolate bar is no problem. If you eat dark chocolate is supposed to be better for you.
