There are several tests:

*Get a piece of paper and write a word on it. Then look away. When you look at it again, and it is different, you are dreaming.

*Light switches usually don't work in dreams.

*Look in a mirror. If you look weird, you are dreaming.

*Try reading a book. If the text is all weird, you are not awake.

*Stuff tastes weird. Paper will taste like chicken, etc.

*People act weird.

Pinching yourself is one of the less reliable tests, since it can still hurt in the more vivid dreams.

These tests are used in testing if you are dreaming, so you can go into lucid dreaming, where you can control your dreams and are aware you are dreaming.

Hope it helps!

I know when I'm awake when the DSL bill comes from Verizon about the middle of the month and I have to shell out forty dollars. I know I am awake.

To many different noises humming of the fridge, slight ringing in my ears and other intricate noises and a feeling of tiredness, a sense of time and just far to much detail around me, you don't get that in dreams not even in lucid dreams.

When you see yourself in front of you and you are doing something, you are in a dream state. If you can ponder your dream/wake state, I guess you are wide awake.

To dream you have to be sleep to be sleep means you are not awake or unaware. We are completely aware(at least I am) that we are answering this question therefore we are awake, therfore we are not sleep, therefore we are not dreaming.

I think right now, going to school, and living the college life is a fantasy...it won't end until I go out in the real world

when im dreaming, im not answering questions....

though once, after an 18hour session playing RAC rally many years ago, i fell asleep to racing down wauchope hill... i'd close my eyes, and there i was, racing... we got the poor old subaru to do 203mph... griz said they werent as fast a F1 cars... and we had to prove him wrong...

we dont experience our dream state, we just remember it...
