So, my Dad is paying for my repairs on my car... He has never really been there for me (except financially) my entire life, but my car broke down in OH today and I live in KY, and I am stranded at a co-workers house for the night... My Dad wouldn't get me a car rental, but he is paying for my towing and repairs for my car tomorrow. I feel really bad because he says he doesn't have the money, but he has a really good job that pays good. The repairs will ONLY hopefully be 300 TOPS! I have no idea what is wrong with it, I just know my left back tire WON'T move. So, I feel really bad that he is paying for my car repairs (and he just fixed my car over the weekend, the stearing rod) my Dad always comes through financially and I am starting to feel horrible.. I ONLY ask him for money/car repairs when I REALLY need it, I am 20 living on my own. What should I do though, because I feel horrible that he is paying for everything, but I can't afford it and my car is ONLY a 2002!!! Help??

Have someone check:
1. Jack up the vehicle & place on jack stands
2. Remove the rubber plug & slacken off the brake [that is if it has drum brakes] Try to spin the wheel. If the wheel spins, then remove the tire & drum. Check the e-brake cable & wheel cylinder.
3. Disc brakes - remove the wheel.
4. Remove the anchor bolts to the caliper. If the caliper is easy to remove, & the rotor won't turn, the there is a problem with the bearings. If you have to fight to get the caliper off & the rotor turns, replace the caliper.

A couple of things come to mind. First, you stated that your Dad wouldn't get you a car rental. Should he have? What were you doing in OH? Was is for work? Your 20, living on your own. Why are you not earning enough money to cover your cost of living expenses? If you feel that horrible about him paying for your repairs, don't ask him. Problem solved. You need to spend less and work more. Remember the old saying, "the harder I work, the luckier I get".

Just because he has a good job that pays good doesn't mean that he can give whatever he has left over from bills to you. He might be trying to start a new life with a new wife. That costs a lot too.

He's probably still paying your mom alimony and child support for your younger siblings. Stop mooching off your dad. Take care of your own problems. I can't believe you expected him to get you a car rental too. Sheez. You are 20 and can't pay $300 lousy bucks?

the best thing that u can do is try to get a better paying job so u can help him with the financial and do something 4 him out of the blue. something that is totally unexpected just to show him that u care for him and dont take him 4 granted

sounds like the emergency brake cable is stuck on that side.just take the tire off and loosen the brakes up,so the wheel will turn.

Then be EXTRA NICE to your Dad and try to do some nice things for him too. I bet he really will appreciate to have a good daughter.

If you really need help with your car, then you need help. If your father is willing to help, then make sure you thank him, maybe ask if he wants anything in return.

it sounds like either your wheel bearings locked up on you or your rear brakes seized on you, both jobs would probably be close to that amount, depends on who does it for you.
