There is a monster that lives in your drier. The noise that you think the drier is making is actually the monster. When you leave the room, it will go through all of your socks in the drier and take one sock from each pair. Then you will never see it again. Good luck trying to catch it. My cousin got attacked and now she doesn't put things in the drier, she hangs them on the line.

Actually, there is a Sock Black Hole in the machine, and socks are sucked into an alternate universe where, instead of TWO socks coming out, THREE socks come out..
and they NEVER match!!! It's horrible.
Actually, no one really knows..
That's why you get these crappy answers..
sorry..

Aaah - I am sad enough to have investigated this matter. I bought my other half 15 pairs of the same black socks from M&S. some are now blue, some are dark grey and some and light grey. Some of them are really thin and some remain thick. the socks don't get lost they morph in to new socks to confuse us!

Maybe because only one went in there in the first place. Or it maybe hiding within some of the other clothes. You just never know...I am sure the reasons vary widely from person to person from washing machine to washing machine.

heheheh so funny. it happens to me all the time too (well, only sometimes :)) anyways, try searching harder around the washing machine, or it might just be that it somehow fell out behind the washing machine. for me, its usually the dryer that causes the problem though *sympathetic glance at questioner*
