Here is a 3 step system I always use:

1 - Exfoliate with a hypoallergenic exfoliating scrub
2- Wash it well
3- Shave with the direction the hair is growing NOT against it!!!!
4- spray body spray onto the shaved area (it cleanses & closes off pores)
5- wash your area with COLD water
6- apply lotion after you dry the area.

It'll be smooth from then on.

To get rid of razor bumps that are in the area; use a different method. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT WAX if you have razor bumps from long ago!! If the wax is strong enough it will rip off those bumps!!!

Just use a really strong exfoliator & then moisturize.
Rub some Zinc Ointment on them IF the exfoliator & moisturizing doesn't work.

Lotion works, and is easy. Best thing is to stop shaving for awhile!! When you do shave, make sure the skin has been in the water for awhile (shower works), and is soft. Then, use a GOOD SHARP razor (I use a triple bladed Venus) and shave with the grain of the hair, not against it. You'll get razor bumps going against the grain. You can go sideways if you really need to, but I don't recommend it unless absolutely necessary.

For aftercare, make sure you put lotion on the area for several days afterwards. My friend's put conditioner on there for a few minutes, but I haven't found that that works for me.

I would look up tips on shaving a guy's face without getting razor burn, 'cause that's what it is. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has some good shaving tips (for faces, but it applies to your area too).

Good luck.

there's creams like Bikini Zone to help bumps & irritation
Azulene oil can help (some hair removal products come with it) like Sally hansen wax strips

shave in the shower or bath with a little shaving cream
use a new razor thats sharp and clean
first go in the direction of growth then the other way
rinse with cold water afterward (closes pores)
use small amount of baby oil to moisturize

to avoid them always use a shaving cream or gel when shaving that area. NEVER DRY SHAVE. You can also go to an local adult store and buy a product called "coochie" and it will help iliminate them. To get rid of them try and apply lotion immediatley after shaving , and using some type of anti inflamitory cream.

I have used deodorant after shaving since my husband told me about it and haven't had the problem since. Just put it on the area you shave. Not to mention the fact that you have to shave with the angle of growth: that makes a BIG difference! Good Luck.

Try a moisturizer. However, I prefer to wax, since the results last longer and the area is smoother.

Very simple! After you shave apply Neosporin or deoderant! I use neosporin! It works great and always use a fresh blade when shaving your hyper sensitive areas! Trust me it works porn stars do it! LOL

The one that said deodorant is right, but go for a moisturizing deodorant, such as dove. And it does work well.
