i've been thinking about what to wear; a tux? a suit? and what colors would match best?

everything goes with black...get a black tux...and maybe a shirt or tie that matches ur date's dress.

Depending on your personality, you can get away with certain looks. If you are more rock and roll- its sexy to wear a pair of skiny jeans with a dress shirt and a nice leather jacket, maybe even a hat (pete doherty style).
if you are more of a prep the best look to go for is a tux.
go for black- unless our personality is wacky enough that you can wear a crazy suit (like dumb and dumber).
sometimes guys look hot when they wear a suit with a pair of converse and a thin tie.

Yes, most likely you want a black tux (a few wear white or possibly other colors), with ususally a white shirt and a standard tie or bow tie, cumberbund, etc. to match your date's dress.

First of all you should were what your comfortable, but when you were a tie or bow tie make it match your dates dress. Its the latest syle for prom and homecoming.
