It's a sad fact that we will be hit again by terrorists, but no one knows when. But with most of our troops overseas, will America even be able to defend itself? We couldn't even sufficiently help out our own when hurricanes Rita and Katrina hit. So with that knowledge, does anyone feel truely safe?

First, the Katrina thing was a horrible act of nature that the Governor Of LA and Mayor of New Orleans dropped the ball on. Do some research on it.

Its not the Federal Governments duty to protect you from your own foolishness.... Everyone in that city was told to leave and should have.

As far as the terrorist thing, they are not going to be able to get an army here from abroad. And their are enough law enforcement officers in this country to quell any militant group that might pop up.

Also, there are many more troops left here to defend this land than you think.

Hell, one US nuclear sub has more firepower on it then all of the US military had combined in WW2

No one can feel truely safe, but I feel a lot safer now. Terrorist can strike anywhere at anytime and there is nothing you can do about. What has been done is cuting down the odds of it happening. What troops we have overseas has nothing to do with Rita and Katrina, and we have plenty of troops here for any response!

It is far better to be proactive than reactive.
Would you really feel safer if all of the troops were home and training to be first responders when another attack takes place - or would you feel safer if the troops took the war to them, destroyed their communication networks, captured or killed the vast majority of alQaeda's leadership, ousted the Taliban government in Afghanistan, destroyed their funding where ever found and pretty much eliminated any possibility of another complex and well planned attack such as occurred on 9/11?
The answer seems obvious to me.
Remember, we all felt pretty secure up until 9/11 - and our policy of inaction and no effective response finally caught up to us. We must not let this happen again.

I do, because the terrorists are tied up bombing the crap out of innocent civilians in Baghdad and not in the US. As far troops helping out w/Katrina and Rita...that is NOT their job, the city of New Orleans should have done a BETTER job of executing it's citizens and not placing blame on the Federal government.

Yep, I feel alot better knowing the terrorists are occupied over there instead of here. And don't underestimate our military lib. They weren't designed for disaster relief. Those people were there (Katrina and Rita) because they had been trained to sit and wait on someone to come help them.

What are you talking about ? America has never been safer. We demolished all WMDs in Iraq. We removed Saddam who was a great threat to us. We also established much-needed democracy over there, per request of Iraqi citizens. We got sanctions imposed on Iran for trying to get nuclear energy for its domestic needs. If these achievements and accomplished missions do not make America safer, I do not know what can !

I don't. Little has changed at airports and ports, we don't know where Osama Bin Laden is and it seems like nobody cares, nobody is doing anything about an immigration system that lets terrorists and drug dealers in while keeping those in need who want to help this Country out and we have alienated nearly every Country in the world.

Conservatives keep claiming Bush has made us safer.

I don't see it.
