Cloning has such vast potential that I will go so far as to say that it is INEVITABLE. You heard me right. It's coming whether you like it or not. If we don't do it, someone else will... and then we'll have the choice of following suit or getting left behind.

Consider the possibilities. Let's start with just cloning of selected tissues. Just imagine what medicine would be like if any time you lost a tissue we could just make some more for you. And it would be YOUR tissue, identical to your old tissue in every way. No more amputees, no more waiting for organ donors, almost no diabetes. Whole diseases might be entirely wiped out, and permanent injury could almost become a term that's an oxymoron. Anyone who DOESN'T want this may need to have his head examined.

One of the major reasons cloning was first developed was to clone genetically engineered animals. The reason we want to clone genetically engineered animals is that producing even one set of altered genes and putting them in the right place can be ridiculously hard to do... but also ridiculously beneficial.

Right now almost all the insulin and clotting factor that is produced for diabetics and hemophiliacs is made from genetically engineered bacteria. Bacteria divide on their own but require relatively expensive culturing conditions. There are many genetic engineers who would like to put the same genes in a goat or a chicken so these valuable medicines could be harvested from milk or eggs.

But one goat doesn't do a lot of good. You need a whole herd... possibly many herds. If you bred the altered goat you might lose much of the work you did. Instead, you need enough goats to provide a breeding, self-sufficient population.

Then you would essentially be turning grass into just about any medicine in the world that you could engineer... with corresponding reduction in costs and increases in availability (and a goat as an intermediary). Anyone who doesn't want THIS probably needs to have his head examined.

Of course, there are other possibilities too. Cloning can't necessarily produce another Einstein or another Mozart, but it COULD produce someone with similar capabilities. You don't even need to introduce the idea of societal production of geniuses - many parents would love to have an exceptionally talented child. There are even some who would love to raise a version of themselves.

These would not be identical copies (you won't really have TWO of anyone)... they'd be like twins, with similar capabilities but very diffrent personalities and identities. Obviously we don't consider twins to be a public safety issue. So why would even complete clones of other humans be? There's really no difference.

Don't expect all these things tomorrow. Or even in the next decade or two. Cloning science still has a long way to go. But they ARE coming. It's just a matter of time.

Many people don't realize it but cloning of plants is wide spread and acceptable in horticulture, the orchids are a prime example.

Animal cloning may have many benefits, mostly reducing overall cost of providing food.

Cloning humans. I hope we never see it. Those sci-fi flicks about a super race of humans running the world just might come true.

I am against it because I think Embryonic Research is wrong. But at times, I contridict myself because I will soon lose a friend to an uncurable form of cancer. I hear that Embryonic Cells can find cures for these diseases but at the same time it involves murder. And with the whole clonging thing, why have another you? Then we just get rid of the famous phsycology of the phrase ' Youve only got one life.' With all the same people being remade over and over again, there wont be any different people. And different people are the ones that make the most difference in this world and personally, I think we need the change in some areas.

Plus, the government freaks out about the human population. This is why they dont allow gay marriage. They say that they wanna increase our population but its okay to remake the same people again. So then it just turns into a money issue. The rich and famous will think that it is a great idea and they will get the idea that their spirit will live on forever and so they pay millions of dollars to be cloned. Thats all the government wants. Money to make machines to take even more of your money. Sorry if Im coming on strong but I kinda have to hurry up and speak my mind cause I have to head out the door. Bye!

i think its great
we have beeen doing it with plants for ages
and for animals it often is a solution
i would like a clone of my self

and before anybody gets all twisted about it
humanity was created by cloning by the Anunaki in the first place
the story of Adam is a cloning story.
so why is it a crime against God ,does he have a monopoly on cloning

I still feel that it is a little strange. I think that we really need to rethink beginning human or animal life on our own. I really do belive that life should only be created from conception, and by God. I think that its very unhealthy, and would be very concerned for the produced clone...Just my opinion..I still think that this is a very controversial issue, as are many others..Well have a nice night.

i am willing to go as far as science will take me

BUT i don't like the idea of cloning humans. That is entirely too wierd and could lead to some funky stuff

The duplicate is not going to be as quality as the original, much like a xerox machine. If society got going with it, there would be so many rules, stipulations, attacks, and so on that the issues of life would start feeling like a dirty truck that hasn't had a wash in 2000 miles and plenty of rain pulling in for inventory check in and the associated stench that wasn't on the job description.

it actual relies upon on the place you draw the line on foundation of cloning and relative projects. might or no longer it rather is immoral in case you have been to pull a strand of hair and burn it? If comparable appropriate might keep on with to cloning, it is not likely unethical.

Dangerous. However, if stupid people keep making too many babies, we're going to have to clone food.

as long as we don't clone entire humans, which we're not close to, i'm fine with it
