put an add in the paper saying you have a pet, what kind it is and that it will not damage the place.

Ask the landlord or rental agent. Sometimes it takes a sweetener. I offered to put down a double deposit. The landlady was so impressed I was willing to put real money at risk, she let me bring my cat. When I left, I made d*#@ sure the place was cleaner than when I arrived in order to get it all back.

look in the yellow pages most apartments that are pet friendly will place that in their advertising or you could all ways call and ask if they are pet friendly most will require a deposit be sure to ask if it is refundable when you move if no damage has been done.
