you may already have an infection. the ph changes around your period which make it prone to yeast infections. go see your gyno since u sem to be prone to infections. don't let it get any worse. tampons should be fine. just change often. or try this http://www.divacup.com/

The real problem would be yeast or pus, but this would persist after the period is done. Any elevated temperature would be of concern. I imagine that if it's been months since your last period that it might smell worse, but I don't know for sure about that. Tampons won't cause infection, but you have to remember to remove them every 4 hours or so, or bacteria can grow on the string and that can cause problems.

It is very common for the blood of the period to smell but the way that I dealt with that was to wash myself during that time on a regular basis and that is in addition to trimming the hairs in the pubic area so that the blood doesn't get crusty in them. For cleaning product when I wash I use Physoderm (it has a couple of formulations and there is also a generic equivalent in most drug stores) especially during that time. I started using it as a result of an accident years ago when I didn't have any soap to clean down below with.

I would recommend checking with your dr to see what they think as well.

Try changing your pads more often...it smells because of the blood just sitting around. You can also clean up with Vagisil or Summer's Eve wipes, they are handy to keep around...especially while you are on your period. I wouldn't try tampons with your infection history. But that is just me. Try changing it more often and see if that helps first. Good luck.

the odor could be caused by BV you need to be seen for it for sure. tampons increase your risk for bv if they are not changed frequently and the correct size used as well. there is no difference in what tampon you are using. also general odor period can come from a period it is blood. but if it is something new you definetly need to be seen to rule out BV.

That's normal. In general, anything that comes out of your body will have an odor to it. Your period is no exception.
