Sure, why wouldn't you? Todays PE classes don't grade on ability. They'll be given a test over the rules and whatever else was discussed. It's as good a topic as any if you think about it that way.

If taught properly I don't see why not. The rules are pretty much set up so there shouldn't be any contact, especially any inappropriate contact. I really don't think it is that big of a deal, and in gym classes there will actually be some girls that are better than guys. It just makes it more fun for all.

I don't see a reason why not, other than fear of lawsuits involving "rough-housing" or something stupid like that (which could be nullified w/ a liability waiver). If girls want to play basketball w/ the guys, then let them and they can be responsible for their own decision. If the competition gets too rough, then assign a group for less serious players. Should be simple, but w/ the law I guess it never is...

but teaching the fundamentals is a great idea

yes. but have girls play on one side and guys on the other. guys just play harder and have a greater need to show off. the girls just wanna play.
