this is for my math homework and i cant work it out

This can be solved as follows:
-8 - t = -25
Add 8 to each side:
-t = -17
Multiply by -1
t = 17
I hope that is the 'two step' method.

-8 - t = -25
- t = - 25 + 8
- t = - 17
multiply by -1
t = 17

Firstly, if every term in the equation is negative, assume they're all positive.

t+8=25

Much simpler.

Subtract 8 from both sides of the equal sign.

t+8-8=25-8

t=17.

If you plug in the 17 with your original equation, it works. -8-17=-25.

The -is just a subtraction sign...it's like saying -8 plus -t.

hey, sure i can help you add the 8 to the 25 so that you are left with the -t on one side
-t = -17 then you divide it all by negitive and you get t = 25
