How do you know if something is stuck inside a toliet, I plan to take it off the pipe but then what do I do?

Just running a snake through the thing just seems to make it ok a little while, something else seems to be going on with it? But what?

most are right. i fill the toilet with more than normal toilet paper and flush.. couple wads couple times and if it backs up something is still in the toilet. I've pulled toothbrushes,tools,false teeth out of toilets. if toothbrush turns and doesnt go out the bottom... tp gets wrapped up around it and then it just builds bigger or causes tp to hang on it slowing the flush. most of the time you have to pull the toilet to get it out. White Rain should change their design on their hairspray cap.. its small enough to go through the toilet s-trap but gets hung b4 it can turn to go out the bottom. had to pull the toilet and use my torch to melt the cap before it would come out.. This is the one part i hate about apartment maintenance

could be several things

items that may have went down there may still be clogging it like q-tips those things are so annoying in a drain they move with the snake / augers and then just re clog Ive had the weirdest things keep a toilet clogged even after snaking it like I pulled a toilet (after being snaked) and there was a gold fish at the top of the drain

but have you checked your jets on your toilet (where the water comes into the bowl threw the small holes) they get clogged some times and if you use the blue toilet stuff that clogs them all the time

also check your water lvl in your tank sometimes you need to adjust your fill valve so that more water is in the tank and that way more is coming into the bowl ( easy way to test that is to take a bucket filled with water and pour it into the toilet and if that makes it flush there is your problem

If you used a cable snake (3/8" cable) you probably just went through the toilet paper that is wrapped arond the clogging object. Rent or buy a closet auger. These have a large cable on them. They will usually clear the trap on the toilet. If that doesn't work, then you can remove the toilet, lay it on it's side and check the exit hole. If nothing there, then you'll need to snake out the piping.

get the snake back out and wrap a wash rag around the end. now rerun it through there. q-tips, tooth brushes, pencils, etc are hard to hit with that little snake. the rag will make it big enough to hit it and push it on through. if the clog was futher down the line than the toilet, it would run up in the bath tub. good luck.

If you have snaked it and plunged ,It sounds like it is clogged "on down the line." You might want to call "Roto Router" or some similar place to avoid a disaster, unless you can get to the outside line~like where it drains into the areator (If you have one) and can snake it from that end too. If you live in the city, you should call the sewer system people and tell them of your problem...they may be required to help.

One time years ago, I was getting up from the pot, and knocked my eyelash curler in the toilet! My neighbors came over, and we took the toilet off, took it in the back yard, and the husband pulled it right out! Boy was it embarrassing, and not to mention alot of unnecessary work! Plus I had to buy a new eyelash curler!

Anyway if your not missing anything, sounds like it is plugged! I think you will have to call a plumber, since the snake doesn't solve the problem!

try a toilet plunger first they have them d i y or wall mart
it might save you a lot of work i use this all the time iam maintenance man for apts if you have a basement there
should be a clean out on your pipe try the plunger first it has saved me many times

Turn it upside down and inspect it from the bottom. Be sure to use a new wax seal when you reinstall.
