I am not sure myself. I was on yahoo for only 45 mins or so a day. I had not been on for 2 weeks and I came back and found under my name it said Top Contributor. Now I somehow lost the title top contributor too. I think you have to get a lot of best answers in a month that's what I did before I got it. I dont even have 70 best answers yet and I am only on level 3... Good luck!! :-) Hope you get to be a top contributor. :-)

It does not seem to be a level thing at all.
I have seen Level 3's with TopCons tags.
I think the criteria is more to do with your contribution to certain categories.
And not just the number of best answers either.
The quickest way to get one (if that's what you really want) is to just ask and answer in your favourite one or two categories. A category where your interests lie.

You have to be a top contributor in a certain category or in several categories...
I have been here a little over a year and have a lot of points but I have no specialty in any one category...
I answer all kinds of questions in all kinds of categories so I don't even get that recognition either and I don't feel it is fair to give it to only people in certain categories...
So I am sure others will feel this way and Yahoo will realize they may have made a mistake in handing out these "awards" with no notice ahead of time when they made their changes, like they always seem to do...
Big deal, if I wanted to stay in one category I wouldn't see a lot of questions and I wouldn't get to rate a lot of answers and I wouldn't get to vote on lots of answers either...
