When purchasing a brand new copy of Final Fantasy XI for the various platforms it is available for...You are not only purchasing the install disc...you are also purchasing an ID.
Upon registering the ID (Debit/Credit Card required), you will be prompted to create your own password....
Upon initial registration of your ID you obtain one (1) month service free as a tryout period....
After the one month is up your card will be billed normally until cancelled...

If you buy the game, you get 1 month free. Then you have to pay, but you still have to register with a credit card.
