in my point of view, after reading a few of his novels andmuch of his sonnets, i can say that he influenced people by using human emotions- anger, fear, jealousy, love. it's this elements that get us to appriciate and read his stories, how he let the emotions rise and fall and rise again.
but i also believe that his influence came from his indifference... he treated every character in his works as if all were important, may it be the noble men or the common people. in Romeo and Juliet, it is surprising to see how well he knew the common people (the nurses and waiting ladies, how they think) and the noble, rich men. its as if Shakespeare knew personally how kings lived, but as well as a lowly street boy did.

I believe he influenced people through his theatrical masterpiece's, and the emotion he brought out in each one of his play's.
