I'm curious -- do you know what crimes these "sex offenders" actually committed?

Was it rape, statuory rape, child molestation? Was it getting caught urinating in public, or streaking at a college graduation, or getting caught having consensual adult sex in a public place?

The label "sex offender" is so broad that it's almost meaningless. And everyone seems to think that "sex offender" means "child molestor". That's like assuming the word "felon" means "murderer".

So, if these individuals are actually a threat to children, because they had committed crimes against children in the past, then your concerns are valid.

But if it's just a matter of their crimes falling within a huge broad range of activities, shouldn't the actual details matter?

Where would you have them live? In a nation that preaches equality and tolerance, we can't just turn these guys out from prison, and then forbid them from living anywhere. I think parents need to police their kids a little better, in urban areas. Heck! Anywhere, really. To expect everyone else to be responsible for your kid's safety, but yourself, is incredibly immature for a parent, and that is coming from a parent of a 13 year old girl.
