Democracy in principle means that the policies are decided by the will of the people. There is democracy where people directly get to decide what happens within the community that they live in; that's direct democracy, Then there's democracy where the people are to elect other people that they hope will represent their interests; that's representative democracy.
I'm a fan of direct democracy because if the government really works for us, we should have a direct say in what happens instead of having to vote for someone and hope and pray that they do the right thing.

Democracy only works on paper. Show me one country where democracy works 100%. Democracy means freedom of control by a person or persons. Not even in America does this happen.

Democracy is accepting everyone as a whole community, not categorizing from homeless to completely rich.
This means so much to me because then the world would be so much more peaceful because of a community that works together, and have an equal education.

Sari -- All what you said is t has nothing to do with Democracy.
Democracy is the attempt to let all, in a country, to have their say in how their government should act. Not working too well in the US today.
By the way, have they properly tallied the votes in Florida yet.
Was it democratic to invade Iraq?
How about torture. Think of Guantanamo Bay. Why do you think this exists out of the US and in secret?
Your soldiers actions in Somalia, Viet Nam, Guatemala, Honduras, Chili, Nicaragua, Angola, Iran to name a few.
Is it democratic that Corporations basically rule? Is it really democratic if only big money can run for the presidency?
