Ensure that the blue "fn" key is not being pressed or stuck down. This is a common fault. Other issues may be that the num lock is on.
In any case you have managed to activate both keyboard and numerical typing at the same time. You may wish to look in control panel under printers and other hardware and keyboards (category view) and ensure your hardware and keyboard is still working fully. it may be a case of download new drivers.
The best advise is to use the help support section / troubleshooter to ensure you get a step by step guide on the issue.

Well, most likely, you have managed to turn on your numeric keypad which is also part of your letter keyboard..
since I don't know what type of laptop you have, it's hard to tell you how to turn it off, however, if you go to the Help & Support section of your Start Menu, I'm sure you'll be able to find the cure.

your number lock is probably turned on (on laptops, the numeric keyboard is on the letter keyboard, and if u turn num lock on, it will type numbers instead of letters

Try pressing "FN" key and "Bloq num" (They use to be in blue), then try writing and it should solve the problem.
If not, read the troubleshooting docs.
