Pick up something nice and happy and delve into it -- Unfortunately, these days one doesnt have to go farther than the 6 oclock news to see things that gross them out. The true secret is developing yin and yang - being able to balance that which grosses you out with that with makes you happy. Write back and tell us what happy book you pick. C.

Hang on there, help is on the way! In the meantime, follow these steps to avoid permanent retina damage:
1) Close offending book immediately and shove into the most obscure nook of the darkest cranny in your house
2) Veg out in front of the TV for half an hour.
3) Repeat step 2 as needed.
Note: if Step 2 proves ineffective, other methods of distraction include chatting with a friend/family member/your dog, playing basketball/sports, hanging out with your friends. If you own a Bible, read it like there's no tomorrow. The point? To get away from the fake world and immerse yourself in the real. Do that, and pretty soon all memories of that disgusting book will dissipate like gas...(pardon me, I couldn't help it)

You probably won't forget about it, but you could try to find something absurd in the scene (could be just one word that doesn't seem right) and then try to make a joke out of it. A brutal scene describing all kinds of atrocities can suddenly seem silly. Sometimes, it works; sometimes, it doesn't.

If you want try Behavior Modification, try this: Get a sturdy rubber band that fits loosely around your wrist. Every time you start thinking about the thing you don't want to think about, snap the rubber band on your wrist. Within a fairly short time you will be able to stop thinking about it. You won't erase the memory of it, of course, but you will put it out of your mind.

Read LOTS of other things. I did something like that once, too. Ugh...I still, unfortunately, remember it, but it's not as recurring.
