is your skeleton living? similarly, the "skeleton" in the plant cell is non-living, while the cell membrane is living, as it allows different substances to pass in and out of the cell. the cell membrane is being controlled by the nucleus.

I agree with ecolink...

We cannot differentiate between living and nonliving organelles. One may suggest that the cell membrane is living as it is a 'Dynamic' structure. But technically it doesn't have living properties. The question itself is a silly one.

I would say that they are both non-living because the cell theory says that the cell is the basic unit of structure and function of a living thing. This means that if you divide the cell down further into its components, the components themselves are not living.
