That is an insult. Just today a kid came up to me and said can i call you Joe? I said NO. Why would you ask a girl that. It is very rude. I have a name please say it right.
So I suggest that you do not call girls the male version of their name. Maybe it will help you get nice/pretty girlfriends.
Bye the way to most girls that is a turn-off.

I wouldn't consider it an insult..
My name is a girl/guys name though and there isn't a way to shorten it.
But if you were Erica or something like that you wouldn't want to be called Eric. It gets complicated..

It would depend on the name and the girl. Maxine could easily be Max that still works. Basically go by this, if she doesent like it dont use it. And also if she isnt allready called it she prob doesent like it.

I would totally take it as an insult because if my name were Paulina I would like go all "aah! kung fu-ee!" on you if u called me Paul. That's just stupid, no offense. So yeah.

my name is Samantha and people call me Sam and I dont care acually i like Sam better than Samantha I dont think it is weird that it is a guys name... the only weird thing would be if i married a guy named Sam

Well, I have a friend named Jackie, and me and my friends used to call her Jack, but she really did not like it. She would get very angry when we called her that.
