This is going to sound bizzare to those used to "traditional" forms of taxidermy, but taxidermy is being replaced by freezedrying. The university where I worked even got a unit a few years ago - they're like an upright refrigerator in size. Only thing is, with fish the colors tend to fade.

Here are links to a websites that do the work - the second also mentions pets - or, maybe you can find someone in your area, even a large university if you establish a good relationship with folks there:

It won't hurt to ask or look through the yellow pages.

Actually in modern taxidermy when you're having a fish mounted you don't get back any part of the original fish that can in anyway decompose.

What they do is make a Styrofoam copy of the fish's body, and paint that to make it look like the original fish. With the piranha they may actually use the jaw bone and teeth if there and good enough shape, the placustomus would pretty much be artificial materials.

If you cannot find someone in your area to do the work for you look online and you may be able to find a taxidermist who can work from pictures and a measurements that you send them.

Good luck.
E.

Maybe the local taxidermist won't work on pets, but I'm sure there's one out there. Lots of them enjoy working on different animals. Glad you have their bodies in a good place.
Someone in the hunting department might know. Go to sports, outdoor recreation, then fishing. Ask there. You are sure to get a response! Good luck!
