As tech girl mentioned, the All Star Resorts (music, sports, and movies), as well as the newer Pop Century Resort are part of Disney's Value Resorts and can cost as little as $84 a night! These are great resorts for kids and can be a big money saver! The music resort has the coolest pool - the Calypso which features the 3 Caballeros!
A great moderately priced resort is Coronado Springs and Port Orleans (French Qaurter or Riverside are wonderful).

I would recommend any of the lower priced resorts. I have stayed at the All-Star movies a couple of times, as well as Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach, and had a blast at all of them. Your son would love the All-Star movies resort. The decor is outstanding. Each wing of the hotel is decorated in the theme of a different Disney movie. We stayed in the 101 Dalmations wing, complete with fire hydrant staircases and a giant Pongo and Perdie standing guard at the entrances, and the Fantasia wing, and entered our door only after walking under a giant sorcerer's hat. They have a food court and a gigantic pool. The only real downside is the rooms are on the small side with double beds. Service was excellent. The other All-Stars are similar, just with different themes.

In the moderate hotels, the rooms are a bit bigger, with the same great Disney service. I know some people knock the Caribbean beach, but my kids LOVED the resort. We had a short walk to the food court and pool, and there is also a sit down restaurant for lunch and dinners (it may be just dinner, I am not sure.) The housekeeping was second to none. Every time we came back to our room, the housekeepers had arranged the stuffed animals into a different scene, and made animals out of the washcloths! Port Orleans has a bunch of pools, food court, and Boatwrights' dining hall for sit down meals, bikes and carts, and a great game room. I personally liked the Riverside wing of the hotel, in terms of the decor. All of them are reasonable in terms of price, you just have to decide which route to take. I have heard good things about Coronado Springs. I visited the resort to check it out, but never stayed there. Looks pretty good, but what else would you expect from Disney.

Of these, I think All-Star Movies and Caribbean Beach, along with Pop Century are my favorites, although I would stay in any of them!

Hope I could help, have a great trip!!

We are going down there in June and staying at the Port Orleans Riverside. Two years ago we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, which is considered a Delux resort, of course we loved staying there. This time we too wanted to do something a bit cheaper. Eventhough the value resorts are great for kids, we prefered the moderate resorts over them. This is because any of the moderates is like being in a delux resort, but a bit smaller. I think the atmosphere with any of them are just as good as the delux resorts. It all depends on what you and your child's tastes are. Have fun on your trip.

The All-Star Resorts are considered the value resorts. We have stayed at all different categories of resorts, and my son really enjoys the All-Stars. His top three are Animal Kingdom Lodge, All-Star Movies, and Wilderness Lodge - so it is right up there. If you have younger children, I would suggest All-Star Movies - what kid can resist a two-story tall Dalmatian or Buzz Lightyear?! If your son is a little older, he may like All-Star Sports, which is a sports-themed resort. All the All-Stars have multiple pools, playgrounds, arcades, great food courts - I had prime rib while my son happily ate his chicken strips and french fries. The disadvantage is these resorts tend to be a bit more crowded, and a little noisier. You may also walk a bit farther to and from the bus stops at the resorts. We are always very pleased with the service and the cleanliness of our rooms, and there are many things for kids to do and see. Have a great trip!

The rooms at the value priced resorts are smaller than the moderate or deluxe resorts although who cares since all you do is sleep and bathe there anyway. We've stayed everywhere from a value resort to the deluxe, they're all nice. It just really depends on what you "need" and what you can do without. Have a fabulous time with your son.

stay at POP century! it is nice, new and very neat.. I have stayed there three times now and it is great, .. They have three pools, a game room, a play ground and a very nice food court area with a varity of food and of course bus transportation to and from the parks.. All star is nice but it's the oldest of the moderate resorts .. All star is usually packed as well! I would say POP for sure!!! Have fun where ever you go! You really can't go wrong at any Disney resort!

i love the Caribbean coastline, they have re executed the major pool and extra an quite effective youthful ones section. The motel is enormous and spread out, yet there are bus stops close to each of the room parts. The food courtroom is okay yet no longer my sought after. The rooms are effective and spacious and there is a privateness curtain so that you may have privateness even as making waiting with assistance from the sinks and what no longer. i fairly get excitement from staying right here. i'd be there the top OF APRIL!

I hear one of the allstars are cool, but you get what you pay for. Personally, the only moderate one ive stayed at was port orleans riverside. It was awesome. 8 pools, a golf course, boats, bikes, and of course disney magic. My favorite was the contempory. We stayed at a garden room and it was not that expensive
