1)what do they use to catch the spark from the flint and what else could work to catch the spark?

2)are the episode supposed to have people live like the natives did whe time began b/c every seasons it the sames exept for the island

1) It's called a tinder bundle. For most seasons, they were around coconuts alot. The husks off the coconut make great tinder. Anything light weight that would easily catch a spark and turn to a hot coal quickly. Certain kinds of barks, like birch tree bark, make great tinder too.

2) I don't think the intentions are for them to live like primal man. But you put people in a desolate area with little to nothing to work with, and you end up doing what you can to survive, much like man had to.

1) they try to get the sparks to catch brush or small pieces of wood. They have used their glasses before to get wood hot enough to burn
2) no, they're just supposed to survive with more or less nothing (except this year). They do ususally do something to do with native life but usually it's in the form of a reward
