You are most likely right. With that many miles, and you never changed, or haven't changed it in some time. Sometimes the line in the tank gets clogged and collapses. I'm not familiar with that car, most likely everything that needs fixed is inside the tank.Depending on your ability it can be easy fix, if the strap bolts are not rusted.

If the check engine light came on while the motor is running there should be stored code in the computer system. Find someone with an OBD-2 scanner and retrieve the codes. That may help narrow down the problem.

Next, the fuel tank is under the car, kinda under the rear seat area. Have someone turn the ignition key to the ON position while you are listening near the fuel tank. You should hear a whirring or buzzing type of noise. If not, the fuel pump is not working. If it buzzes, check for spark. (You should be able to hear it in the car if the car is in a quiet area)

Third thing, there is a pickup module in the distrubutor that can go bad and you will have no spark. (or occasional spark, run / not running / runs again type problem)

Check for fuel pump "noise" then get the OBD-2 scan.

In addition, one problem that I have experienced with the Acclaims and Spirits is IF it is the 4 cylinder motor, the wiring to the Throttle body lays in a metal lip along the back of the rocker cover. If the rocker cover leaks, or the PCV leaks, this metal lip holds oil. The oil saturates the wiring harness to the Throttle body, throws all kinds of check engine codes or (often no codes and just runs crappy.) If that harness is shorted by motor oil, you will need to either replace it (might find a good one in a salvage yard) or as I usually do, clean it and tape or replace the bad wires.

There are some vehicles that have the gas clear out actually interior the gas tank and it is not obtainable until you drop the tank. i understand that the evade Durango is like that and that i'm particular extra vehicles are going that course additionally. I only appeared up your motor vehicle on develop motor vehicle website and it does certainly have one. i might wager that it is located on proper of the gas tank the place the only way it is accessed is to drop the tank to get to it. The mechanic did no longer want to do the interest and that i might recommend looking a clean mechanic.

When the check Engine light comes on it can be 1 of three things,EGR VALVE,
OXYGEN CENSOR OR CATALTIC CONVERTER. THE BEST THING TO CLEAN
BATTERY COROSION IS BY MIXING WATER AND BAKING SODA AND POOR
IT ALL OVER THE BATTEY AND TERMINALS THEY WILL LOOK LIKE NEW.
ALSO IF YOU HAVE A BAD COIL THE CAR WILL START AND STOP WHEN EVER IT FEELS LIKE IT.
