When citing wikipedia, would it be considered a web site or an article in an online journal? How would I go about citing it? Thanks

wikipedia isnt a good source... Anyone can put an Article on there....About 75% of those articles have errors or are bias.

You would cite it the way you would any other website.

I wouldn't cite Wikipedia for the same reason I wouldn't cite any other website as a source - Internet sites are not considered to be terribly scholarly.

However, I respectfully disagree with the other posters; while Wikipedia articles may be flawed, I've found that by comparing Wikipedia's entries to other sources, they are pretty similar in terms of content.

I think Wikipedia is a great place for "ready reference" and I highly recommend it as a starting point for research.

You shouldn't use Wikipedia for anything research related. I wouldn't cite a darn thing from there....
But if you were to cite it I would cite it as a web site.

Use Wikipedia as a jumping-off place. Get your data, then verify the portions you want to use elsewhere.

Then you can cite the validation sources.

Wikipedia itself is an informal way to get the 'skinny' on a subject as understood in common parlance. Nothing less and nothing more.

it is a web site. you just type in what you want and it will find all the information it can for you. you can also change the information on the web site. but they have people going through to check the information almost everyday. it is really acturate. this is the one web site that basically everyone that i know goes there.
