"I've heard some people say, that hip-hop is dead,
No it's not, it's just malnourished and underfed."
It lives on in the underground where it should stay. If it is there it won't be corrupted by the powers that be like most of the other genres. There has always been wack MCs, but nowadays record execs realize that wack MCs sell, and conscious MCs don't. It's all politics. The only thing that bothers me about "hip-hop being dead" is that ignorant a**holes judge it on 50 Cent and say it's not music but then get mad if people classify rock as Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance. Oh, and the posers that find redeeming qualities in songs like Chicken Noodle Soup. If you want to find good hip hop look to the areas in America (and other countries) that haven't blown up, like Seattle (that's where I got the quote) and Kansas City. Until they get discovered and exploited by the industry, they will still drop quality hip-hop.

Because of the f@gs that buy anything that they see on MTV. Pretty sure Biggie is a legend by the way, a lyrical genius. Artists like 2pac and Biggie paved the way for these freaks you hear rappin today and they all just suck horribly. The only rap today that is decent is the underground sh!t that no one hears about because they aren't flashy enough and don't rap about how rich they are. Those guys are seriously talented but these guys that are mainstream rap CAN'T RAP! They talk. And they are not poetic at all.

Hip-hop is not dead, it just went back underground, where it should have stayed all along. Rap, however is dead...and it is dead because the music industry hung it upside down, slit it's throat and bled it dry. Kinda like a pig at a slaughter house. Thank goodness we still have some good stuff to listen to, Atmosphere, Living Legends, Eli, Murs, The Grouch, Blueprint, Non-phixion, Sage Francis, Heiroglyphics and many many more progressive hip hop artists.

Nas is talking about how Hip Hop isnt based on the music. No artist really has the passion for hip hop anymore. Now all they care about the money and hos. People listen to it yha and seem to like it its just that Hip Hop wasnt the same when like DJ flash was around etc. Noone even knows how hip hop was when it was "alive" now when u hear hip hop they are talking about gettin money, sellin drugs, or girs shaking they money maker.

no its not because some of the greatest rappers are dead. if the rappers would start rappin like they did back in the day then hip hop would not be dead! if rappers start rappen about real issues in stead of booty shaking, making money, dissen other people then hip hop would not be dead. and one more thing and if they were real rappers they would not have beef between other rappers and not rappen just for the money and fame!

its dead because it has no meaning anymore....the lyrics are (in jackie chiles voice from seinfeld) explicit, ilogical, ridiculous, and absurd! but in all seriousness yeah, it doesn't reach out anymore. they're realizing that ppl are still buying albums no matter the lyrics, and that's not an excuse to give a half-*** job. Older rap songs like "The Message" i appreciate more than, oh, say, "I make it rain"
COME ON!!!!!

Because people have woken up to the fact that many of these "artists" (ex. "Li'l Kim") are nothing more than common criminals. When posses of rappers start shooting at each other in the streets outside a radio station's studio, it's not cool, it's stupidity.

Is it just me or did biggie become one of the greatest rappers just by dying? Last I remember he sucked. Anyway, yeah people got tired of hearing rappers talk about themselves.

I feel it is because there wasn't anything new or inventive coming out of the genre. Everything sounds the same with the same beat as I've heard before.
