I have a Toshiba Satellite, A105-S1014 and I love it.
I upgraded from 512mb to 1gb of ram, and I find it does everything I want to.. the main thing you want to know about a laptop is, how does it do what >I< want it to do? Pretty is nice, but, the Toshie is sleek, nice to look at, durable, and fairly light, slides right into a good briefcase, or a bookbag with the cables, and/or mouse, if you decide to use one. It also came with wi/fi, express card for the pcmcia(sp?), 4 usb ports, headphone and mic jacks, an ethernet connector, a modem connector, dvd/cd rw, good sound, s-video out for tv connection as well as video out to a regular puter monitor.
But, in the end, it's YOUR decision, and we can only advise.
As for me, my Toshie RULES!

I have a Dell, IBM, MacBookPro and iBook. MacBookPro wins hands down. The Dell is the worst - piece of junk - feels like something out of a Cracker Jack box and has tons of problems. I'll never go Dell again...

I recommend a Dell Inspiron 1501. They are good quality and reasonably priced. You can get a good one with lots of goodies for $700-800.

Get a Dell for the specs, or get a Toshiba or HP for its looks and reliabiltiy, as well as being portable. Search for evalue codes on google for good dell computers.
