I'm in a great relationship. Because of our different faith titles my boyfriend and I have had many conversations about how we would raise our kids and how we would approach issues that pertain to our faith later in life. I am a non denominational Christian and he is a Mormon although he considers himself a nondenominational Christian he was raised Mormon and his family is Mormon. We agreed to raise our children Christians and send them to private Chrisitan schools. We are both on the same page when it comes to faith. But for some reason that is not enough for my parents. His parents are very accepting but mine are not. How do I convince my family that the relationship will work and that we all are on the same page. And that is what is important to US!! I don't want to have to pick between my family and my future husband. Is there any advice or any people with successful stories of such that I can learn from?!

You and your boyfriend sound like you have your heads on straight and really are on the same page. I say let your parents know that you would love to have their blessing, but that it is not required. That you will marry this man with or without their blessing. If they don't come around and accept him right away, they probably will at a later date. Once you let them know that you aren't budging and that they CANNOT pick your mate for you, they'll get it and come around.

I wonder if your parents are afraid that if you do marry him that you will convert to Mormonism. I guess they just don't understand that you have already worked everything out and that you have both agreed to raise your children as Christians and not a particular religion like Mormonism. All you can do is just assure them that you both love each other and that you do have the same goals in marriage and raising a family, that you are in complete agreement about it, and I believe that they will eventually come around. It may take some time, so don't loose hope. It would be nice if they did accept him as your future husband before you actually get married, because I know that would make it so much easier on you if they did. It does mean a lot to have a parents approval of your life mate--I do understand that! That is really cool that his parents have totally accepted you because I would of thought that they would of been the ones to have a problem since you were not a Mormon that their son was marrying. Good for them for being so open and accepting!

If it works for you then great! I was thrilled to read that you two have discussed how your kids will be raised already and not put that off for later. Is the only thing your parents have a problem with his religion? If so, they'll adjust when they see that the two of you are doing fine. If not, you're going to have to decide if you would rather be with him or find someone your parents approve of. I say that it's who makes you happy that matters, but it's up to you. Good Luck.

i imagine you should do what pleases you. you won't be able to stay for everyone else --- at the same time as they throw that dirt on your face, that's gonna be your face ---- no longer your mom's, no longer your dad's, no longer your relatives & acquaintances. that's why you want to stay your human being existence. My relatives would not care. They care about the man's heart, no longer the position they're from. This international is a multicultural international. it style of feels that your figure's did not care about marrying someone completely from their faith. Why do you should? Be with someone who excites you, who makes your chuffed, who pleases you. do not get stuck up into race and faith.

Wait... you have non-denominational parents? And THEY'RE upset? Why, what does he have to be? Pagan? Unitarian? Agnostic? I don't get it. Tell them to leave the Mormons alone! Most of them are so cool and happy. (You know, the normal ones) ^__^;; Don't even bring it up again. Just laugh when they do. Pay for your own wedding.

then why are you concerned about your parent's approval? are you not living your lives as adults? then only you need to be happy with your decision. stop trying to convince your famliy. and just focus on being happy. but don't let them disrespect you or your husband in front of your face.
