Yes get help now! This is definitely a cry for help. It is very serious. You must tell someone immediately.

I was a cutter as teen/young adult. I think you would be surprised at the number of people that do it. It is and it isn't a cry for help. Most times they cut not to try and kill themselves, but more because they are really depressed and physical pain helps override emotional pain. However, it may go hand in hand with suicide. If your friend is depressed then it could lead to much worse (if it hasn't already) in the future. I definitely think you should first talk to her about it, ask her why she is doing it and if there is anything you can do to help. If nothing else, she is going through a rough time right now and needs support - not judgment.
I also think you should talk to her about telling her parents. They can probably get her some more emotional support from a counseller. That isn't to say she is crazy by any means, but sometimes people need to talk to someone who isn't involved directly with their circle of life. If it is her parents that are the cause of it (say they are abusive etc.) you should tell her to talk to a guidance counseller at your school, or a teacher. Even an aunt or an uncle.
Good Luck

Yes.. it's not a good thing and she needs to talk with a counselor/therapist/phsycitriast.
Cutter's (as they call themselves) do this process because they are having difficulty coping with their life. It works somewhat like this. Their brain is awash in all the bad things going on around them to such a point that they are having difficulty dealing with reality. They the start to make a cut and they are so distant from reality that the pain isn't there... so they cut again... eventually the pain breaks through the 'craziness' going on in their brain and allows the flow of reality to rush in. This helps calm them but at the same time becomes a crutch to deal with everyday problems. Each episode of 'cutting' becomes longer and longer as they 'trick' doesn't work as good the second time as it did the first, nor the third as it did the second and thus the cycle continues.
Yes.. tell an adult, be it the school counselor, their parents, a minister or priest. You could talk to your friend first about her getting help but don't don't trust her to do so on her on. This will be a difficult thing to admit and or understand herself and it maybe that only an outside friend who really cares can prevent the situation from getting worse.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

Uhm, definitely tell someone. If she's still a minor, tell a school counselor if you're not comfortable going to her parents.
I cut from ages 9-15....if someone hadn't said something, it would have gotten way out of control.
Do something before it escalates. It could be a cry for help or it could be a stepping stone to more self destructive behavior...i.e. suicide.

you need to tell someone. Obvious this girl has some serious issues and she confided in you to tell you that shes cutting herself. she shouldnt worry about it looking bad, she should worry about killing herself.. Tell her family member but do it in a way that she doesnt know. If that doesnt work, get her together with a family member and tell them in front of her. On top of all of this.. please Pray for her....

yes it is a cry for help. Usually people cut their wrists the wrong way knowing it won't kill them so people can feel bad for them. People who commit suicide from cutting their wrists cut vertically not horizontally.

tell a teacher. while it might seem like a dumb idea, they're the best people to handle the situation because family may be the ones driving her to hurt herself.she may be angry, but you need to know that you're doing the right thing and you may save her life. best wishes! :)
