It's a hard question to answer, because "the media" is so incredibly broad. Are we talking about the front page of the newspaper? Advertising? Prime-time television?

As a teenager, I do think that the media creates certain sorts of culture that are detrimental, such as an obsession with image and weight, an unhealthy view of sexuality, and a great deal of unnecessary violence. However, this is not all that's shown, and most teenagers are old enough to take media messages with a grain of salt. Whether the same messages adversely affect younger children is probably a more contentious problem.
