With Gordon Brown coming in, I suspect that will be the future of the trans-atlantic alliance. Of course America and Britain will remain allies but with the Franco/German wedge that will be driven between us,....well...I just dont know.

A single chnge of political leadership changes nothing that was already, or not, changing.

No country is savvier or more cunning then the English in managing and balancing the European continent and the rest of the world.

they will continue to do what they have historically done and should do- which is look out for the UK's best interests- which requires tight relationships with both sides

France and Germany have plotted for over 100 years to carve Europe up between them..
Britain is totally a non entity as far as they are concerned,
as are all the other countries they have 'allowed' to join.
By 2030 they will have a ' defence force ' of over 100,000,000 .( not sure if thats enough zeros for 100 million)
Thats not a 'defence force' thats an attacking army.
who are they going to attack..thats the question..?
I would rather be on the winning side..lol

im british and would prefer they were our main allies i wish to remain allies with the usa but the fact is these countries are closer to us and its important to remain strong local relationships for trade and environmental issues and also social issues we share values more in common with western europe then we do with the USA

Britain is held in such high esteem by the US government for our unfailing support, that we dont even rate 'most favored nation' status that potential enemies such as China have been given - thanks for the distain
