It is sad to read some of the answers above. Especially statements like. He is not as bad as Sadam and it is not our business.
For starters the average age for a female to live to in Zim is 39,so how many of them are dying before their time and what is the difference between bombing someone and starving them. Bombing is probably more humane.
It is our business,we boycotted the country into submission ,cordoned them off using our navy and handed power to that thug.
Having said that I cannot understand how South Africa can stand by and watch what is happening, can't they see their future if nothing is done.
Doing something in Zim would not be the same as Iraq because there is no army to talk of and they would be too pleased to see the back of Robert M. Also the people are praying for something like that to happen.
In another way Zim is like Iraq,in that ,We go in stir the sh1t then get out and say it is not our problem.
All prime ministers from Harold Wilson to Jimmy C had a hand in this. IT IS OUR DOING.

Don't you think the west has "helped" the people of Zimbabwe(Rhodesia) enough. It was Western liberals who helped put Mugabe in power. And now following the usual pattern of socialists he is slowly starving the country to death as he makes a mockery of democracy and steals everything of value from the people.
The sad thing is the only way to take Mugabe out of power would be the use of military power. In other words an invasion. And what is your opinion on Western powers invading small countries to remove dictators from power?
Even more sad is the post above this by Bastaya. He does not even realize that the whites fled Zimbabwe years ago. The only people that are left are the blacks and those that are not in Mugabe's camp are being starved to death. Zimbabwe is a Rwanda or Ethiopia in the making.
He is so full of racist hate that he cannot see the truth.

What we must consider is just how much behind the scenes UK.gov is actually giving to the official opposition in Zimbabwe. We will never be told simply because to do so will destroy any plans which the Zimbabwe opposition may have for the future of their country.
The British, in the guise of the BBC, carry out clandestine activities in Zimbabwe via South Africa. The SA.gov is probably at this very moment deeply involved in trying to sort out something on the future of Zimbabwe.
Mugabe is now 80+. He cannot live forever. If he were to die, what sort of vacuum would this leave? Would it lead to long years of civil war lead by local war-lords? All this and much more must be taken into careful consideration.
In any event, UK have no reason to want to get involved in toppling Mugabe. Hold fire and let him die a natural death then do something if we must. The British Army certainly cannot get involved - it's already stretched over 20 fronts in the war on terror. It will have to be done by the SA-Army if it comes to a shooting war. God forbid.

Here's how the west can help. Supply guns and train a guerilla force answering to the MDC. Use them to overthrow Mugabe and put Tsvangirai in power so he can restore democracy to the country. Getting the army on the side of the rebels would be crucial.
Then give them money to rebuild their country, invite the white farmers back to produce food again and begin the process of reconstruction.
All this can be done without direct involvement.

Zimbabwe is a perfect example of why Europeans should still be in control of many African nations. Mugabe is just a murderer and a thug. He should be shot.
The West is through with helping African nations. They wanted independence, now they got it. Live with yourselves. It's too bad that some people have to be the victims of these murderous thugs.

One thing is for sure , we shouldn't try anything apart from the sanctions already imposed.
if military means were used , the invaders would be treated as such [ see Iraq] .
It's so sad seeing the death and destruction being brought about by corruption , but until the inevitable civil war or military coup happens , we should just ostracise that country, maybe by putting more pressure on South Africa to denounce that regime ?

Much as I loathe Robert Mugabe, he isn't like Saddam Hussein in that he potentially has possession of weapons capable of causing much destruction. I guess much of the West doesn't care if there's no threat to themselves, eh?
For what it's worth, I think he deserves the same fate as Saddam.

Those of us who have lived in Southern Africa, and those who take notice of events all saw this coming many years ago.
And even though Britain and the USA are in part responsible for bringing this murderous thug to power, they will sit back and do nothing about the current situation.
Ian Smith should have been allowed to get on with UDI.
We will see the same situation unfold in South africa in the coming years.
