I LOVE the GTO. Luckily, I own 3 of them. But best is a relative term, and most people will not be looking for a GTO for daily transportation.
Personally, I think the best Pontiac is yet to be built. The future is looking pretty bright, poncho fans!

455 Super Duty - 1973 - Underrated. If the compression is bumped to 10:1 or better you can't touch it.
Heavy Duty bottom end, High flow heads, Ram Air 4 cam, top shelf parts throughout. Limited build from GM. Only in the firebirds that year. The 1973 grand am with the 455 SD was car of the year in some magazines before pontiac kept that combination from making production.

I have owned a 1965 Tempest,1964 Grand Prix, 1967 GTO ,1963 Bonneville,1972 Catalina. The one I had the best performance and least maintenance was the 1972 Catalina.Great ride,power(400c.i.) and looks being it was a 2 door hardtop The GTO was fast, but had fuel problems, the tempest was cute but too slow, the Bonneville was beautiful and powerful, but had valve problems.

any year gto. i love 66's i got a 67 for sale. i also like the lemans and tempest. gotta love the 70-71 GT-37 go fast for cheap. and finally the super stocks of the early 60s. 62-64 catalina
