I can only answer for myself. I am not homophobic. As a Christian, I follow Christ's teachings. We are to hate the sin but love the sinner. I have absolutely no problem with the homosexual person. I am called to love all. However, as God has said in the bible, homosexuality itself is a sin. God did not design us to be in same-sex relationships. Therefore I cannot condone that type of lifestyle. I will continue to treat all people as God has instructed.

Hey man it's all about values. I am straight, however I have some gay friends and they are cool. I think it's because homosexuality was and is still portrayed as a perversion by the very Gay folk that this homophobia still exists. Basically i am saying that it's the few bad-apple Gay's that cause the stereotype. Would you have your kids viewing open displays of sexuality - of any type, especially ill intentioned displays designed to intimidate etc. Apart from the religious connotations - Religion: The bible CLEARLY says man must not lie down with another man. Hey people just want clean living - Stop visual sexulity and all will be well. Just my thoughts on this...

homophobia is a reaction to gendered expectations.

"You're not acting the way 'natural' men/women are supposed to act."

Without gender, so much suffering would go away.

Without gender, people would be more likely to recognize that there are more than two sexes. Actually, it is biologically more accurate to say that "There are as many [human] sexes as there are people." Once more people realize that it will change how we view human sexuality. (And obviously homophobia would be more readily recognized as absolutely rediculous.) in the 12 century, even the "Church" recognized 3 sexes. However, between the 14th and 15th century the social/cultural atmosphere changed and people began to fear that they wouldn't be able to tell who was homosexual and who wasn't if people acknowledged more than two sexes... snip snip. Today the Church has gone farther, writing the word "homosexual" into their holy book where the word never before appeared in hebrew or greek.

This is a great question!

i think it could be worse in some places. stereotyping is all that seems to save gay men in my small town. when someone comes out here they automatically turn into stereotypes, change their personalities to conform to the popular images of a gay person, like jack from will and grace(i only talk about men because women NEVER come out in my town). i used to wonder why that was and then it hit me. these guys are safe from harassment by local yobs only because they are so 'out' that everyone knows who they are. they are not threatening, they can be seen a mile away, almost like cartoons. but i don't know how these a5sholes would act if they couldn't steer clear from the queers.what a threat it would be to their masculinity if they were seen to be getting on with someone who was homosexual.. it could be mayhem. but then maybe it just takes one person to come out and not conform to this camped up stereotype...

I think without stereotypes there would still be homophobia. However, without gendertyping, I think there wouldn't be homophobia because people would feel freely to float from one sexual side to the other without fear of being judged. I personally feel that everyone is born bisexual, and then the rest is left up to environmental and other genetic factors within their lineage.

Yeah, I think that would make everyone pretty androgynous, so that would take care of a big part of the homophobia. Of course there'd still be the religious and sex (man on man) phobias.

Nevermind.. I'm not making much sense.

It depends on what you think of as homophobic. I'm not afraid of homosexual people, but I disagree with their lifestyle. I don't hate them either, especially since they are humans and most of them are fairly nice and sensitive people. It just depends.

No-discrimination would still exist against people who are 'different'-they'd just find a new word for us.
