Put a parachute behind your back and run. The resistance from the parachute will easily decrease your time when you run without it.

The best indoor exercise machine to increase speed is the STEPPER. Do thirty straight seconds of pedaling in each of your workouts and you will be so much faster. To build speed you also need to know how to run (I know it sounds ridiculous, but it helped me). Before you begin a run, sprint or whatever you need a good stance.Always begin your run with your strongest foot first(if you are right handed it would be your right foot that is the strongest).A lot of making a good time on your 40 has to do with a good start. I ran a 5.5 freshman year and now I am running a 4.8.Listen to the advice your coaches and teammates give you.

there are numerous things you can do to help increase your speed, besides the obvious sprints
Running up hill definately helps alot, Jumping ropes helps, use a lighter rope so u can increase the speed
Doing "Stadium Stairs" always helps
One of the more effective things for me was the "Dot Drill"
keep track of your times and do it b4 you work out
you should be able to increase you agility and speed
Dont give up, push yourself. Nothing in life is free
If u work hard eneough results will show

Jumping rope helped me go from 5.4 to 4.8 in less than a year. I was 6'3" 240lbs. and did 10 sets of 100 reps every day from the end of the season until the following season began. Jumping rope is fun and really builds strength, endurance, and quickness.

everyone has given you pretty good answers. improving the strength of your calfs and quads are good starters. working on explosion and foot quickness are great to do too. 10 yd sprints, 20 yard sprints and cutting down on waisted movement could also benifit you.
lengthening your stride, taking fewer strides and a good start are what you need to end up with.
