There is a difference between a book burning and someone running down the street naked. Both are freedoms of expression but you don't have to open a book or read its contents but you cant walk around with your eyes closed trying to avoid the streaker. Guess it depends on the freedom of expression in question. Some people thought that Harry potter books were teaching children witchcraft and were tossing them onto bonfires. My opinion harmless childrens book so depending on whether i have read the book or not i might or might not try and save a couple of copies.

It is something I am passionate about, probably due to free thinking and expression being smothered for so long during my earlier 7th Day Adventist childhood and youth. Unfortunately some do abuse it and think that it means the right to verbally assault people. I think that on any issue it is possible to openly express an opinion without having to make it a personal attack.
And I would be a book hoarder/smuggler! That reminds me of a bonfire night that was once hosted by a group of Adventist youth where we were encouraged to burn any secular books and records - I cringe at the memory. I remember my brother burnt his whole box of Playboy and Penthouse and ALL his rock and metal albums!

I hope I would be a hider but also a campaigner for rights of expression. Freedom of expression is important - there are some provisos to this of course as with anything, for example if your freedom of expression is damaging to other people, like firing at will in a crowd with an automatic rifle because you are angry, then that has to be a no-no. I would however campaign vigorously for example for my right to freedom of expression in the worship of God and my right to express that worship publicly. I would hide my Bible very carefully. Well, you asked! :-)

Literature, the written word, is vital to our freedom of self expression. It is one of the beautiful things about our country ... there is little restriction on what we can read. Certain countries allow only specific books from a list that people are allowed to read; punishment can be severe for possessing a banned book.

I would fill every nook and cranny with books if I had to.

I probably;y will die protecting freedom of speech. That's not to say I'll not pick my battles carefully. When Alexandia burnt, we will never know what we lost - somehow however, some truths/stories live on. Nowadays, few want the truth....what hope is there for the minors? Sorry. but your question is depressing me, but should always be asked.

Why would you be swayed either way? The point is? Hey let's just grow up and not follow people doing nonsense that are just as equal as we are but maybe just a bit more foolish. Better you ask 'if people were jumping out of aeroplanes without parachutes then would you jump? Hey - get a hobby or something.
