We JUST finished this book a couple months ago!! I'd be happy to help on your questions.

1. George and Lennie depend on each other. Lennie's mental problems cause him to rely on George, and George needs to look after Lennie because he feels it's his responsibility. Since Lennie is mentally enable, this causes a lot of obstacles, such as the girl in the red dress, and Lennie's great size and destructive power. Their dream is to own a house and a farm to build on and raise their own crops and animals.

2. Lennie's almost killing Curley was foreshadowing the end. Since Lennie was so big and destructive and Lennie thought Curley's wife was so pretty, Lennie was anything but destructive and cumbersome. His hesitation to listen to George was also foreshadowing that George maybe didn't need him, that Lennie had started refusing George and George's influence was no longer working, causing the responsibility that clung him to Lennie was disappearing. This prepared for the destruction of Lennie by George at the end of the novel.

3. The setting is by the woods, near a river, by a bush, and a little off sight is the farm they work on. In the end of the novel, Lennie is told to meet George there when he's in trouble. This is important, because Lennie does just that at the end of the novel, and, in turn, George kills Lennie.

4. Lennie's stupidity and George's new wariness caused by his fellows is the main conflict. Their friendship becomes imbalanced, and causing the happy conclusion to collapse into a tragedy. Lennie and George's friendship is the main conflict of the novel.

5. George: George is a caring person, who is altered by others decisions, though he tries to hide it. He is tough on the outside, but soft on the inside. He tries to do well, but he ends up doing wrong. He think looking after Lennie is the right thing to do, but it ends up just giving him grief. Everywhere he turns, he finds problems for himself in Lennie, and he think tolerating him is going to make him a better person. George is big mouthed, and a bit bossy, but is very caring toward Lennie throughout until the end.

Lennie: Lennie means well in all cases. He enjoys looking to George to solve his problems, and adores little distraction like bunnies a mice. He is a little kid in a monstrous body. All he wants to do is care, but all he ends up doing is destroying. He's a kind hearted person who just wants friends beside him, but the more he cares, the more he is pushed away. Lennie is a small child, soft on all sides, and looks to George like a guardian angel.

6.
Curley: Curley is a violent, hateful character, who enjoys nothing better than being on top of people all the time. He doesn't like people to be stronger than him or make him feel out of place.

Crooks: Crooks feels he knows where his place is, being the only African American on the farm. He's been through a lot of toil and hardship and being discriminated against that he is now discriminated and pushes away all people, even himself, at times. He likes to be on top of people and give white people at taste of their own medicine when he is allowed.

Candy: Candy is old and withered and likes to grab onto old things and old friends to make him feel better. He doesn't like letting go of old things, like his dog, and feels its almost his time. He enjoys work, but knows his place in being the old swamper.

Curley's wife: She's young a beautiful, but dislikes her husband, Curley, who sees her as an item rather than a wife. She's very flirty, and had dreams. She let go of her dreams one day and came to the ranch. She wishes the world she could've persued her dreams instead of being stuck in the old ranch.

Slim: The savior, the peace-keeper, and the all-knower, Slim is very wise in his years and very strong, enjoying others looking and feeling good and is there with a shoulder to cry on. Slim is there to be a friend, and willing to take the bullet when needed to.

7. Curley's wife is very lonely. Curley always keeps her locked up and never allows her to go out. She can never speak to anyone, because all of the ranchers think she's a "tart". Since she has no one to talk to, and her husband thinks she's an object, she finds that she is very lonely and doesn't have anyone to talk to.

8. The dream seems more far away at the beginning, when the two having almost no money and almost no food. When Candy offers them the cash to get the ranch, they are closest to their goal.

9. Slim is the all around good guy, ready to take the fall for anyone else. He's tough as nails and hard a tacts, ready to break up any fight and keep the peace in the ranch. He's very wise and very all-seeing, all-knowing and helps out anyone who is having a hard time.

10. (This should be up to you! Sorry I can't help: it's an opinion. In case you didn't know, at the end of the novel, Lennie kills Curley's wife, runs to the woods, George follows him and then kills him!)

I noticed not many people answering!?

I'd check www.wikipedia.org or sometimes the summaries on www.amazon.com are very helpful.

Also you may want to repost this under Home->Education-Homework Help. Many , many school curriculums include this in thier subjects and assigned readings as homework. You’ll find a much more ready, and willing to answer, audience under this category
