Most places it isn't an offense to run a yellow light. Typically if you enter the intersection (actually break the plane of the intersecting street) prior to the signal turning red, no offense is committed. If the signal is red before you entered the intersection, then you have committed a violation.

Is it worth fighting? The court will usually take the cops word for the facts, but if you can show that he wasn't in a position to actually see where the front of your vehicle was at the time the light changed, you might have a chance.

Fight it all the way. some may say that the instant you notice it's yellow, especially if it's BEFORE entering the intersection then it's wrong. But I've always assumed and had it understood that as long as it just turned yellow once you passed the bar/white line, then you are ok

the purpose of the yellow gentle is to warn drivers that the gentle is popping pink. You run a pink gentle and possibility a value ticket once you enter the intersection and the gentle is already pink. they say that yellow would not recommend punch it and bypass, and that's because of the fact in many circumstances human beings think of they are in a position to make it yet certainly locate the gentle's pink and too previous with the aid of provide up. in case you have been nicely interior the intersection, you ought to not assume a value ticket.

legally, you shouldn't have been "running" a yellow light. A yellow light is a caution light and you are supposed to stop (if you can do so safely.)

As for proving it was yellow as opposed to red, sadly the burden of proof is on you, however in traffic court it won't matter.

Your best option is to try and argue that you would have created a safety hazard by trying to stop in time.

I would try to fight it if you have the red light cameras in your town.
We have them were I live and they can go back through the tape if you do have them and see if it was red or yellow.

Good Luck

If you have an unbiased witness, fight it. If not, the court will likely side with the cop.
